Rihanna makes British Vogue history wearing durag on cover

by Yousra O'Harra
August 12, 2024

Rihanna appeared in a monthly cover of Vogue wearing a Durag making British Vogue History. The singer would be the publication’s first cover star to overlook the garment. Editor Edward Enninful explains it like a “solid emblem of black life” that is infrequently viewed via the prism of top fashion.

Primarily worn by African American men because of protective hair wrap, it accelerates the growth of waves and braids. Durags have been one of the unique fashion styles and have always been part of their singer’s masterpiece. We also saw them during the runway of her introduction Puma x Fenty show in New York back in 2016. Brands such as Gypsy activity have also helped to bring the look of a high fashion viewer, which makes space for the emergence of high-end Durag lines, for example, Dü.

This weekend, only two or three days following her cover was revealed. Rihanna took the durag as the season for a fresh set for the campaign of movies. She also added it as a significant feature for her Fenty fashion line. Rihanna posed wearing a bright Durag to promote the range of leather Fenty pieces. To amplify the styling, she matched her color to the vibrant headpiece, which was tied at the front, letting a few strands of her braids to peek through. The singer finished off her outfit with sleek black sunglasses and statement jewelry.

Editor’s opinion on social media

To this action, many people reacted, as Enninful on his Instagram account posts a picture and wrote, “Rihanna is a woman I am lucky enough too count among my closes, collaborative creators. And did I ever imagine a durag on the Vogue cover? No reader, I did not.” He further exclaims that on the cover of Vogue, we see the most fabulous, aspirational, and beautiful Durag. It is worn by a woman who had come up against and broken every boundary. He also exclaims how exciting it was.

Stephen Jones, a lauded British Milliner, designed the Durag worn by Rihanna in the cover of Vogue. Stephen Jones is working in the fashion industry for the last 40 years.

Rihanna had worn out a Durag at several red carpet events. She wore a crystal-encrusted one that was paired with her Adam Selman dress in 2014 in the CFDA Fashion Awards. There was an interview in which Rihanna opens up about wanting to have children and reveals she would have three or four children in the next ten years’ time.

Further, Rihanna was asked if she was planning to have children on her own or if she has met the perfect person. She ousted the reporter and said that society makes her feel like she does not have the idea of having kids. Rihanna thinks society diminishes a woman as a mother if there is no dad in the kid’s life. She also exclaims that the only thing that matters is happiness, that being the only thing that holds the relationship between a parent and a child. Children need to be raised with love.
